Checklist to help employers plan an induction programme for new starters to an organisation or role. Free to download and use.
You can copy and paste the template text into an email or document.
A checklist should include tasks to be completed as part of the induction. It can help the worker and line manager know what's been covered and when. This can help the worker settle in and understand what's expected of them.
A checklist can be helpful. However, the induction should not be about just ticking boxes. The worker should feel supported and the process should help them become effective in their new role.
An employer's HR department often writes induction checklists. When doing this, they should consult with other people and teams, such as:
- health and safety officers
- line manager or supervisors
- worker representatives
- training officers
- security officers
- IT department
Employers can adapt or develop this checklist to meet their organisation's needs. For example, by adding or removing tasks for specific job roles, or for homeworkers. The suggested dates for completing tasks will also vary depending on the needs of different organisations.
Use this checklist alongside Acas advice on inductions.
