Benefits of working for Acas

Acas is an independent public body, funded by the Department for Business and Trade (DBT).

As part of Acas, you can help us achieve our vision of making working life better for everyone in Britain.

You can enjoy the following wide range of benefits if you work for us.

Learning and development

Learning and development for workers is a priority for us. When you join Acas, you will have an induction to the organisation, our work and policies. You will also have access to Civil Service Learning, which has a wide range of courses and professional development opportunities.

As you continue in your Acas career you will be able to drive your own development through:

  • regular conversations with your line manager
  • access to our extensive learning catalogue
  • development through networks and peers

Reward and recognition

The Acas Recognition Scheme acknowledges excellent achievements in Acas. The scheme gives staff the opportunity to nominate colleagues for outstanding work which has helped us to achieve our goals. It is also to acknowledge those who have gone above and beyond in helping their colleagues.

Health and wellbeing

At Acas you will work in an environment that supports you to have a balanced and healthy lifestyle.

When you join, you will have access to our:

  • health and wellbeing hub
  • employee assistance programme (EAP)
  • local office champions and communities
  • staff networks

These provide expert advice and support on health, wellbeing and lifestyle matters.

Pension scheme

Your Civil Service Pension will provide valuable benefits for you when you retire.

The Alpha pension scheme is a defined benefit, career average pension scheme. The amount you're paid is based on:

  • how long you’ve worked for your employer
  • how much you’ve earned

We also offer a personal pension scheme called Partnership. This is a defined contribution pension scheme where the benefits depend on contributions and the growth of the pension fund.

Cycle to work scheme

You can hire a bike and cycling equipment to travel to work with our cycle to work scheme. Hire costs are deducted from your monthly salary. You then save tax and National Insurance.

Near the end of the hire period, you can choose from:

  • returning the equipment
  • buying the equipment
  • extending the hire arrangement

Childcare schemes

You may be eligible for Tax-Free Childcare from the government.

If you move to Acas from another employer, you will no longer be able to access childcare vouchers. This includes moves between government departments.

Interest free season ticket loans

After 12 months of satisfactory service we offer interest-free loans for season tickets. This will give you the best discounts on your travel.

Volunteering opportunities

You will be entitled to a minimum of 3 days' paid special leave a year for volunteering. We encourage employees to take this up, as volunteering can be a great way to share skills with worthy charitable causes.

Equality and diversity

At Acas we value equality, diversity and inclusion. During our recruitment and selection processes, we remove names and any other personal details from applications. This eliminates any potential biases at the shortlisting stage. We are fair and we do not discriminate against candidates.

We will also consider requests on application to work flexibly – for example, part-time or in a job share.

We have a range of communities which you can join at Acas, including staff networks and online communities. We also have specially trained colleagues to offer peer support if needed.
