Nine out of ten employers give Acas Model Workplace tool thumbs-up

Employers are singing the praises of the Acas Model Workplace diagnostic tool, according to recent evaluative research from Acas.

Acas Model Workplace

The Acas Model Workplace is a free diagnostic tool available on the Acas website that enables employers to check how good their organisation is at people management.

Effectiveness is measured in ten short modules covering:

  • recruitment, selection and induction
  • pay and reward
  • performance management
  • flexible working and work-life balance
  • equality and diversity
  • communication and involvement
  • employee representation
  • discipline and grievance
  • change management
  • key performance indicators in people management.

After working through a module, the user gets a rating for the effectiveness of their current practices, and is directed to resources and further advice.

Employers' appreciation for the tool

Almost nine out of ten employers were either very or fairly satisfied with the tool, and a similar number have reviewed one or more of their policies or procedures as a result of using it.

Nearly three-quarters of respondents went on to revise one or more policy or procedure, and almost half introduced one or more new policies or procedures.

The research, presented in the Acas research paper pdf icon An Evaluation of the Acas Model Workplace and Acas e-learning [1Mb], said the tool has made a significant difference to users' awareness of key issues, with 85 per cent of respondents finding areas needing improvement in their organisations.

More than four-fifths of respondents said they were either very or quite likely to recommend the tool to others.
