Creating effective HR - Part 2: Managing performance

An effective performance management system will have a clear appraisal process for employees. The assessment will be against an agreed set of objectives and skills (which can also be known as competences) for each employee over 12 months. It will cater for an employee's development, but also provide ways of dealing with any under-performance.

The e-learning module, online guide and booklets below offer practical assistance to employers on managing performance.

  • Acas Learning OnLine module - Performance management covers key elements such as: setting objectives and competences for employees; personal development plans; and the appraisal process, including the mid-year review and annual appraisal meeting. The module is a way for employers to reinforce their understanding and includes a test at the end. You will need to go to Acas Learning OnLine to register or login.
