Toxic workplaces - how to tackle them
A toxic workplace can be recognised by such symptoms as high staff turnover, a culture of bullying, poor levels of trust between colleagues and/or poor levels of trust between management and staff - and poor levels of customer service.
The costs to your business can include lost productivity, increased recruitment spend, conflict, discipline and grievance procedures - and maybe legal fees.
Further information including availability and how to book is available from the Staff retention events in London page.
Introduction to Mediation
Conflict at work is costly. Disputes between colleagues, teams, employees and their managers divert time and energy away from the business. Where formal internal procedures are invoked or Employment Tribunal claims made, the cost can be even greater. Mediation and mediation skills can help organisations deal with conflict more effectively and reduce some of those costs. In this session you will learn more about what mediation is, the mediation process, when mediation can be appropriate and how you can introduce mediation into your workplace. Check the dates for our latest Introduction to Mediation Courses.

An interesting ET decision - unlawful redundancy
In this case, the principle of proportionality was not observed when, in a redundancy selection exercise which consisted of a male solicitor and a female solicitor on maternity leave, the employer gave the female a notional maximum score not based on her actual performance for one of the selection criterion. There were alternatives that would have protected the woman's position without giving her an unfair advantage over her male colleague, who suffered unlawful sex discrimination. Read the case in full Eversheds vs de Belin [216kb].

Need help getting your employees more engaged?
All managers are different in terms of their experiences, skills, knowledge and attitudes. It is also very easy when under pressure to lose touch with how to manage people 'issues' in a manner that achieves best outcomes for everyone involved.
