Entrepreneurs need to get the people side of their business right

This year's Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) has highlighted the fact that many new businesses are failing in the UK because people lack the basic understanding of how to set up and run a business.

Experts acknowledge that now more than ever, encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship is of crucial importance to support Britain's economic recovery - a message echoed recently by Prime Minister David Cameron. Global Entrepreneurship Week aims to create a national conversation about entrepreneurship to help connect people, share ideas and address regional issues to drive the next generation of business owners.

However, getting the financial side of your business right is only half the story. Understanding your rights and responsibilities as an employer and recruiting and retaining the right staff are essential to building and growing your business. Get the people side of your business wrong, and it can cost you time, money and loss of profitability.

Acas provides advice and support for new employers, enabling you to recruit and retain the right people, navigate your way through the complexities of employment law and build an efficient, profitable business with a productive workforce.
