I would like to have some time off so I can watch some of the matches, but my employer has said too many people are off so it's not possible. Can my employer refuse my holiday request after all I'm entitled to my holidays?

Although you have a statutory right to your holidays, your employer can say when they can be taken and how many people can be off at once. Check your work's leave policy, usually found within the organisation's staff handbook. Your employer will need to maintain a certain level of business so it may not always be possible to accommodate everyone's leave requests.
