Become an accredited workplace mediator

Disputes and relationship breakdowns between individuals at work can lead to sickness, grievances, poor morale and higher staff turnover. Dealing with it costs organisations valuable time and money, particularly if the matter reaches an Employment Tribunal.
Having your own workplace mediators on hand can make a huge difference in these situations. The Acas accredited Certificate in Internal Workplace Mediation (CIWM) gives you the skills and confidence needed to help reduce conflict quickly and effectively. The skills and techniques that you learn on the course are not just useful in dispute situations - communication, negotiating and conflict resolution skills are invaluable in day-to-day work life. The course also provides delegates with a recognised qualification.

We offer this as a tailored on-site event at your place of work if you would like a group of staff trained together, or join us at our next open events:
6 November in Nottingham -  CIWM Certificate in Internal Workplace Mediation .

Email events@acas.org.uk or call 08457 38 37 36 for more information and to book.

Training

We run authoritative training courses for small business and larger organisations (see 'Find a course' above). For specific requirements we can customise training sessions to run in-house. We also work closely with organisations to assess their current situation and give recommendations on improvements that will increase efficiency.

Cutting the Costs of Training

If your organisation is in the private sector and you are interested in any of our training courses you may be eligible for up to 50% funding from Growth Accelerator.  For more information contact Kath.Baker@peraconsulting.com

We work with you

We work with employers and employees to improve organisations and working life through better employment relations. You can discuss issues with an adviser who can give advice and guidance over the phone.

We work with others

Acas East Midlands works in partnership with the East Midlands Employment Relations Forum (EMERF) to run three topical and prestigious conferences each year. We also run specific conferences for solicitors, trade union representatives and Citizen Advice Bureaus.

Promoting positive employment relationships to maximise organisational performance across the region.

In common with other Acas regions Acas East Midlands is pleased to support an Employment Relations Forum in our area. The Forum enables managers, HR professionals and employee representatives to receive up-to-date briefings from a range of experts, share good practice and concerns about current issues and to influence relevant policy developments.

Its activities are coordinated by a Steering Group made up of area representatives of emda, the CBI, the TUC, the Engineering Employers Federation, CIPD and Nottingham Business School as well as Acas and HR professionals from the private and public sectors.

During 2011 we ran very successful events around "Proposed tribunal changes" and "Health issues in the workplace". We are now inviting members to join for 2012-13 when we are planning to cover many wide and varied subjects designed to capture all the issues of the day.

Annual membership is £75.00 (no vat is payable). For details of how to join the Forum please contact Anne Bryant by email on abryant@acas.org.uk.

SaBRE (Support for Britain's Reservists & Employers / Reserve Forces)

The Reserve Forces are expanding and changing, they will become more integrated with the UK`s Armed Forces and will be relied upon more regularly to play a part in the country's defence. Therefore, employers may find that more of their staff will become Reservists.

  • Do you have members of your staff who are Reservists?
  • Are more of your staff considering becoming Reservists?
  • Would you like to know how this will affect you as an employer?
  • Do you know what employment rights a Reservist has?

For the answers to these questions and more, please use this link to SaBRE, the Government Organisation supporting Reservists and their employers www.sabre.mod.uk/

We at East Midlands Acas will soon be holding a joint event with SaBRE for local employers regarding Reservists and their employment rights. If you are interested in receiving details when they are available please email nottinghamevents@acas.org.uk
