Employment rights after Brexit transition period ends

EU rules will no longer apply in the UK when the Brexit transition period, agreed in the UK-EU Withdrawal Agreement, ends on 31 December 2020. 

In most cases this will not affect employment rights from 1 January 2021, but there will be some changes to rules on:

  • employer insolvency for UK employees working in the EU
  • membership of European Works Councils
  • employing EU citizens
