Acas has had over thirty years to think about this question. Thirty years of working with employers of every size and from every sector faced with every kind of problem.
We have learnt some obvious truths - that every business is unique and every group of individuals has its own way of tackling problems; that although a third party can help resolve a problem the two parties in dispute always own the solution; that success, once achieved, is even harder to maintain.
What is the key ingredient? Who operates the machinery, sells the products; comes up with new ideas; makes all the decisions?
People. People are the key to the success of your business. But how do you get the most out of the people in your workplace?
We have developed the 'The Acas Model Workplace' to help you improve the effectiveness of your business by focusing on the people you work with.
Using the model is entirely voluntary. No one will be telling you what to do or checking up on you - although we are happy to help if you ask us. You may wish to use the model as a list of the things you aspire to or to check how well you currently manage people.
