Acas statement on PCS strike

Friday 11 May 2018

Some of our Acas conciliation staff that deal with individual disputes (disputes that involve potential and actual employment tribunal claims) are taking part in strike action today. This strike action only affects staff from a particular civil service grade that work with individual disputes.

Staff in other civil service grades that work with individual disputes are not taking industrial action and all other Acas staff including our Acas conciliation staff that work with collective disputes (disputes between an employer and a group of employees) are working as normal.

We have had regular discussions with PCS about their concerns and we are recruiting more staff to deal with the increase in demand for our individual disputes conciliation service due to the Supreme Court decision on tribunal fees. Our media statement is included below:

An Acas spokesperson said:

"We are disappointed that some of our staff have decided to take strike action. We have had regular discussions with PCS, we are committed to seeking a resolution and continue to work with our trade unions.

"Over seventy five per cent of Acas' staff will not be taking part in the action so our offices and key services such as our collective conciliation service and helpline will continue to operate as normal. We have plans in place to minimise disruption to our individual conciliation service and maintain the best possible service to our customers."
