Acas response to Government committee report on workplace dress codes

Wednesday 25 January 2017

Included below is Acas' response to the Government Petitions Committee and Women Equalities Committee report on high heels and workplace dress codes

Head of Guidance, Stewart Gee, said:

"We welcome this report and the committee's investigation into dress codes at work. Acas continually revises its guidance to reflect the latest developments in employment law and customers' needs.

"Our advice is clear that company dress codes need to abide by the Equality Act and must not discriminate against any gender. Employers that consult their workers on any proposed dress code can help to make sure it is acceptable to their organisation and its staff.

"We are happy to work with partners to look at further guidance in this area."
