Employing and settling in new staff

When taking on a new employee, employers will need the necessary personnel documents in place including the person's Written Statement of Terms and Conditions of Employment, their P45 and National Insurance number. An induction programme should be arranged and cover the businesses' structure, aims, personnel, any relevant training and the businesses' rules, policies and procedures.

The e-learning modules, online guides and booklets below offer practical assistance to employers taking on new staff. They offer advice on the necessary documents employers and new starters need to complete, and how to arrange an appropriate programme of induction.

It covers paperwork, organising a successful induction, including the organisation's expected standards of performance and behaviour, rules and policies, and health and safety.

It covers: when an employment contract begins and what it needs to include; when a Written Statement of Terms and Conditions of Employment needs to be produced and what it should include; and what to do if the contract needs to be changed.
