New for 2014: Early Conciliation launching soon

The New Year brings many changes to employment law, but one of the biggest developments is the introduction of Early Conciliation.

On 6 April 2014, Acas will be launching its Early Conciliation service for anyone thinking about making an employment tribunal claim.

Early Conciliation will help resolve most kinds of workplace disputes, including unfair dismissal, discrimination, deductions from wages issues, redundancy issues, equal pay, and rights to time off or flexible working

Once internal workplace procedures have been exhausted, reaching a settlement through conciliation at the earliest opportunity is quicker, cheaper and less stressful for all concerned than a tribunal hearing.

To give everyone the best shot at resolving their differences without going to a tribunal, employees will now be required to contact Acas before making a claim. Acas will then offer them Early Conciliation to try to bring a swift and effective resolution to the dispute.

The service is free and features the assistance of expert conciliators, who will not take sides, but will help clarify the most recent developments and requirements of employment law.

Until the launch of Acas Early Conciliation, Acas can still help you resolve disputes early through its existing free service, Pre-claim conciliation. And if Early Conciliation (or Pre-claim conciliation) doesn't achieve a resolution Acas will automatically offer to help again as or when at ET1 claim is made.
