Acas launches new 'HR for beginners' course
Employers without an in-house HR team can find it a frustration to have to divert time and resources to overseeing HR issues. But it's important to remember that while it may not be revenue-generating, the HR function of a business can't be ignored.
Keeping your HR affairs in order will not only ensure the smooth-running of your business, but will help keep employee morale buoyed. Payroll hiccups and mix-ups about leave entitlement do little to improve relations between employer and employees, and mistakes with contracts, terms and conditions, and other rights and entitlements can potentially be very costly.
That's why Acas have launched a new hands-on training event to help people new to HR get to grips with the fundamentals. Assuming no prior knowledge or experience, the session follows the arc of the employment relationship, from recruitment and drawing up contracts to the end of employment. Along the way it also covers pay, hours and holidays, equal opportunities, discrimination, discipline and absence.
Delegates get the opportunity to discuss scenarios in depth and to take part in practical exercises. Acas also provides a toolkit of sample policies, documents and letters to help you get started once you're back in the workplace.
