First Acas Chair Jim Mortimer passes away

Wednesday 24 April 2013

Acas Chair, Ed Sweeney, said:
"I am very sorry to learn of the death of Jim Mortimer.

Jim was the first Chair of Acas between 1974 and 1981 during what was a significant period of industrial relations activity in Britain. Consequently Jim chaired some lively Council meetings during Acas' early days, particularly when considering union recognition issues under the old section 11 of the Employment Protection Act 1975.

Jim will be remembered for steering Acas through these challenging times which has helped shape the independent and impartial role we have today."
