Acas statement on BA/Unite talks at Euston Tower - Saturday 22 May

Sunday 23 May 2010

John Taylor, Acas Chief Executive said:

"In the course of talks at Acas today (Saturday 22 May) between BA and Unite, a crowd of demonstrators broke into the building and disrupted the proceedings. No one was injured and the parties left the building safely but Acas regrets that, as host to the parties, such an incident should have occurred.

"We are tenants of the building and there were security personnel on duty. However, we understand there was a Socialist Worker conference nearby today and when this conference broke up, the media presence outside the Acas building alerted some passing delegates who then gathered in a large crowd and broke into the building, forcing their way past security and damaging door locks.

"It was disappointing that talks broke up in this way and we are already in touch with the parties to endeavour to restart the discussions. On a wider issue, we will also obviously be reviewing security arrangements."
