Acas investigate facts behind 'wildcat' strikes

Tuesday 03 February 2009

Acas has been asked by the Government to look into the facts surrounding the unofficial strike action which has spread from the Lindsey refinery in Lincolnshire.

Acas is involved in discussions to look at how parties can return to normal working arrangements.

In a separate meeting interested parties have now agreed terms of reference for an Acas enquiry to establish the facts surrounding the IREM contracting arrangements at the Lindsey refinery. This will involve looking at the contractual arrangements, tendering processes, minutes of meetings and the operation of the national and local agreements to determine what has taken place.

The final published report will include the current legal context of contracting practices in the UK and is expected to be available to all parties. It is due to be released on 13 February.
