Acas chair applauds Chemical Industry's approach to workplace relations at the TUC Congress
Ed Sweeney, Chair of Acas, today spoke at the Chemical Industries Association's fringe meeting at the TUC Congress in Brighton on Industrial Relations.
During his speech, he expressed admiration for the Chemical Industry Association, which has the vast majority of its sites under union representation, and continues to successfully work in conjunction with trade unions across a number of employment issues.
"We are impressed with the joint problem solving taken by management and the trade union on the many issues in the chemical industry sector.
"Continued good relations between the CIA and Unite T&G, means the sector is in a good position to provide support to both its employees and managers. The parties make sensible use of Acas' services, not only to resolve disputes, but also for advice on wider employment relations issues."
Acas dealt with approximately 20 disputes in the sector in 2008.
